in search of ...

i have a little dilemma. you know, that one where you find a fabric you just LOVE and have to have and then you find out it's discontinued or that it's $120 a yard? well, i wish my problem was that this amazing houndstooth was discontinued, because knowing that it's out there and i can't have it is killing me. see this great teal chair? this is the chair that's patiently waiting for new life in devan's room. i'm willing to settle for another fabric, but it has to be brown and white, only, straight-lined-geometric and it has to have an oversized pattern. if you have any great fabric sources pass them on to me. i'm hitting dead-end after dead-end. since i won't be re-upholstereing this baby myself i can't justify spending more than $50 a yard.

I know you'll find the perfect thing, Elizabeth, because you are 'decorator extraordinaire!' I loved that chair you reupholstered in KY and then passed on to me when you moved. Unfortunately, we couldn't bring it with us, either, but I gave it to a very grateful new-mom in the ward who didn't have anything to sit on when she nursed her baby. Be sure and post your finished project!

Are you sure you don't want to do the chiar yourself? I got a really good book from the library on how to re-upholster furniture. Ask design mom, I bet she would help you out.

right, boo. let's just add that to my mile-long list of half-finished projects. it'll probably get done when devan's 5. and i have asked design mom about the fabric, haven't heard back yet.

I'm sending this on to my designer friend I told you about. I'll get her in on the hunt. That chair will be radical!!

I was searching for drapery fabric just now and found something you might be interested in on e-bay. You have to buy 25 yards of it, but I have a chair to get reupholstered also, so maybe I can split it with you. It would not be quite as cool as the houndstooth, but it could really great. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130203293513&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

It was covered in a red sort of floral...I think you made a purse with the same fabric? And, the seat was BOUNCY! :) I'm pretty sure you dug the chair out of a dumpster before giving it new life.

Have you tried IKEA? They actually have some really pretty fabric and sell it in huge quanties...online may list or you may just have to take a quick trip out to see us. Oh, yeah, I agree with you don't re-upholster it by yourself ,it will not turn out right, especially with the bold fabric print.
